Who Am I??
I am the owner of Nashville Plating Service and Distributor of The Hopkins™ tone ring.
What Do I Like??
My love for the banjo runs deep in my veins. In 1962,I purchased the album, "Bluegrass Banjos on Fire." I did not realize it then, but that was the start of my passion for bluegrass music. Since that time, a lot of water has gone over the dam. I was extremely lucky to have found true pickin' buddies in Jim Fee, Tom Biggs, Mike Longworth, Paul Hopkins, Curtis McPeake, Wynn and Sonny Osborne, just to name a few. These gentlemen have long forgotten more than many of us will ever know.
With the vintage prewar banjos all but impossible to obtain, most of the banjo community has been settling for what was available. This was not acceptable to us.
Paul Hopkins and Mike Longworth have been involved in research in banjo tone production for several decades. With the advent of the Paul Hopkins Full Flathead tone ring and the Tony Pass Lost Timbre submerged wood rim, we are now able to provide a combination that produces a tone that is very close to the elusive pre-war banjo sound. What is Nashville Plating Service??
I have the same kind of love and respect for your instrument, or car bumper or vintage Coca-Cola® part that you do. So when your parts come to me, I treat them as I would my own. I have worked on some very rare and valuable vintage pieces of art and collectibles, restoring them as closely as possible to their original condition.
Each type of part requires different types of plating. As of January 2008, I have just moved into my new facility. This allows your prized possession to never leave my shop. Each piece is inventoried and a digital image is created. I set up a personal file, just for you, with a job reference number assigned. Each piece is cleaned and polished thoroughly to prepare the surface properly for plating. I strive to provide a 14 day turnaround on your parts, instrument or other item.
Upon receipt of your item, I will contact you with a firm price for the work. Many jobs can be priced by email as a lot of restorations are parts that I have done before. Your price quote is your price. There is NEVER a surprise price increase.
Thank you for your confidence in our work. You have allowed the growth and the move to a larger facility.

I provide the following different platings:
Antique Nickel (distressed)*
24 Karat Gold
After many requests and months of trial and error, I am pleased to add antique distressed nickel plating to the product line. This is not merely adding brush marks to the exisiting nickel plating. The parts must be stripped and a completely different process used. This is ideal if you are building a repro of a 30's banjo and want it to look 75 yrs. old. The wood can be distressed and now the hardware as well. You can now add a distressed flange to your prewar banjo and save that holy grail flange or add a distressed tone ring to the archtop conversion banjo to match the old hardware. Have you lost an old hook, a thumbscrew or want a modern Presto and save the old one? Call or email for any questions.
I also polish stainless steel and aluminum.
In addition to plating of musical instrument parts, I can also help you restore other plated surfaces with these platings, including barber chairs, tableware, motorcycle parts, antique car parts, and just about any other metal surface that can be plated.
I also restore Coca-Cola® memorabilia.
Prices and information are available on e-mail request to: firstname.lastname@example.org
